HONG KONG BILL
Thank you for your letter of 11 December 1984 to Erskine. He has asked me to look after
the Bill.
I agree to the omission of an express extent provision.
It is not clear to me that the definition of "enactment" would cover Acts of the
Parliament of Northern Ireland and Measures of the Northern Ireland Assembly. A
similar provision is to be found in section 1(3) of the Anguilla Act 1980. In this Bill I
suppose it is for those who will draft the Order in Council to advise us whether they
propose to amend or repeal any Northern Ireland legislation.
