Chapter 2 - Public Response to the Green Paper

From the date of publication of the Green Paper to the cut-off date on 18 September 1984, the public responded with a total of 433 submissions of which one was anonymous and one irrelevant; 172 were reports of comments made in discussion forums, seminars and public speeches and interviews. There were 194 editorials and feature articles. At annexes I and II are original submissions from organisations.

2.2

To facilitate collation, analysis and assessment of comments, submissions were classified by source into broad categories as follows :-

Representative bodies : e.g. Legislative Council, Urban Council, District Boards, Heung Yee Kuk, area committees.

The general public and community personalities : e.g. individuals including members of Government advisory boards.

Education/welfare associations; trade unions and interest groups: e.g. HKU Academic Staff

Association, HKU Students Union, Council of Social Services, HK Federation of Trade Unions, HK Observers etc.

Traditional community

organisations including religious bodies; professional bodies, industrial and trade

organisations : e.g. Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Law Society of HK, HK General Chamber of Commerce, Church of Christ in China, Lions Club, Zonta Club etc.

Media feedback, including

feedback from electronic media : e.g. daily press, radio/TV programmes and periodicals.
