Governments of Eastern Europe. Over the last few weeks
no leass than five senior representatives of Eastern
European Governments have visited London for talks with
Her Majesty's Government. And my hon. Friend, the
Minister of State at the Foreign Office, will tomorrow
conclude an important visit to Poland.

Mr Speaker, this process of exchange and of
dialogue is only just beginning. The results so far

13. The same is true, but in even greater measure, of
our achievements in the European Community over the
past year. By any standards, and certainly by the
standards of previous Community deals, the agreements
reached at Fontainebleau in June were a quite
remarkable accomplishment. At long last, the question
of the United Kingdom's contribution to the Community
budget has been resolved. In future, our net
contribution will be only about half of what it would
have been with no agreement. That is the measure of
our success, and of the handsome dividend paid by our
dogged determination to win a fair and just settlement
of the problem.
