were collected through the student associations of the 8 faculties, class clubs and societies of various departments and by setting up

collection points inside and outside the library.

(3) The questionnaires, after collection, were processed

and analysed by computer. The whole statistical process was aheaked

by studenio designated by the Council. The Ad-hoo Committee, after

making a comprehensive analysis of the findings, submitted a report to

the Council.

C. Findings

2,444 questionnaires vere returned, representing 47% of total

Union membership. Of the questionnaires returned, 2,380 were walid,

13 were blank and 51 were invalidated because (1) the respondents did

not answer the first four questions in Part I which formed the foundation

of the questionnaire; (2) after answering one question, the respondents

did not go on to the next question as instructed which rendered analysis

difficult.

Of the valid questionnaires, 1,570 respondents or 66% were male

and 803 respondents or 33.7% were female. First and second year students

accounted for over 30% respectively of the valid questionnaires.

(I) Results of the survey are as follows:

(1) First, on the question of the principles on which the

students consider the question of sovereignty. Those who chose self-

determination by Hong Konɛ people and nationalistic standpoint accounted

for 33.7% and 33.1% respectively of all valid questionnaires.
