2. We have put forward papers for this meeting of the Cabinet

Sub-Committee on:

(b) Undertakings.

We have also told the Cabinet Office that the Secretary of State will be making an oral report on:

(a) progress in the talks;

recent discussions with the Governor and Ambassador;

(c)

Mr Luce's visit to Hong Kong.

(d) his own visit to Peking and Hong Kong.

We shall submit a speaking note on (c) on Monday 16 July, following

Mr Luce's return.
