All fishing vessels currently registered under

Part IV of the 1894 Act and those registered

under Part I, (or the 1886 Act) as well, will be

transferred to the new register (fishing section)

at no cost to the owner.

It will no longer be necessary for fishing vessels

to renew registration every five years.

It will be possible to record title and mortgage

on the new register (fishing section), if required,

thus removing the need for dual registration.

On transfer of registrations to the new register,

the existing tonnages of the vessels will be retained.

To reflect current practice, and ensure that the

position on tonnage measurement does not become

even more complicated, fishing vessels previously

registered under Part IV of the 1894 Act only

may be re-measured under the Merchant Shipping

(Tonnage) Regulations 1982.
