All fishing vessels currently registered under
Part IV of the 1894 Act and those registered
under Part I, (or the 1886 Act) as well, will be
transferred to the new register (fishing section)
at no cost to the owner.
It will no longer be necessary for fishing vessels
to renew registration every five years.
It will be possible to record title and mortgage
on the new register (fishing section), if required,
thus removing the need for dual registration.
iv
On transfer of registrations to the new register,
the existing tonnages of the vessels will be retained.
V
To reflect current practice, and ensure that the
position on tonnage measurement does not become
even more complicated, fishing vessels previously
registered under Part IV of the 1894 Act only
may be re-measured under the Merchant Shipping
(Tonnage) Regulations 1982.

A fee will be charged for all new registrations.
will be made to keep the level of the fee as low as possible,
bearing in mind that when title and mortgage facilities are
not required the amount of work involved is relatively low.
