FUTURE OF HONG KONG: ASSISTANCE TO HONG KONG LEGAL DEPARTMENT

1. When I was in Hong Kong last week the Attorney General asked if we might be able to assist in recommending someone who could go to Hong Kong for about three months to help them out with extra work on the future. The main task would be the listing and annotation of existing treaties with respect to their relative importance to Hong Kong. Mr Thomas said that he would be very hard pressed to do this with his existing staff in Chambers.

2.

I should be grateful if you would consider whether there is anyone, for instance a retired Legal Adviser, who might be able to help. Mr Thomas is visiting London this week and will be in the Office on Wednesday and Thursday. An appointment is being made for him to see you. If you were able to suggest anything then it would be very helpful.
