17. FINANCE
Black tie not required. For ladies, long dress is normal for Chinese State Banquets. July is the rainy season, calling occasionally for light raincoats.
Light weight loung suit or equivalent for daytime and evening engagements. Black tie not required.
a) Costs will be borne by parent departments. common service costs will be charged to : DSC Vote D1(II)(a)(iv).

Subsistence (rates attached at Appendix VII).
(i)
FCO and
Where members of the party are Guests of Government, one tenth subsistence will be paid. (ie those accommodated in Guest House at Peking will get 1/10 of 160 Yuan, the rate for room and full board)
(ii) Where members of the party are staying in
Residences or with colleagues, they will receive one third of the appropriate rate of subsistence.
(iii) Where conference rates are applicable for hotels, the Mission will pay the hotel bill for the room, service and tax and the member of the delegation will receive half of the Class A to cover all other expenses.
(iv) Those wishing to do personal shopping in any
country are advised to take travellers' cheques with them.
(v)
Current exchange rates are at Appendix VII.
18. ADMINISTRATION
The party will be administered by Mr I H Davenport of Conference and Visits Section, Protocol Department, FCO in conjunction with the British Embassy in Peking and Government House, Hong Kong.
After 25 July, arrangements at the London end will be handled by Miss S M Waghorn (tel no 273 3632).
