Chinese suggest:

18/19 July because of Wu Xuenan's engagements and absence Ambassador instructed to press for our original proposal. We should if possible inform Mr Luce in time for him to announce the visit in Hong Kong. Brief will be required for Peking and Hong Kong (see folders of April visits).

B.PRIME MINISTER'S MESSAGE TO ZHAO ZIYANG

Prime Minister has approved text with minor amendments. inform Hong Kong (for Mr Luce) as soon as it is agreed.

C.MR LUCE'S VISIT TO HONG KONG (12-14 JULY)

There will be a reporting telegram in the EXCO meeting. This should reach us on Friday. We should inform Ministers if problems arise. We need in addition confirmation of the go-ahead on acceptability for Parliamentary statement (see below).
