LINE TO TAKE
My Right Honourable and learned friend, the
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, visited Peking from the 15th to 18th of April, where he discussed the future of Hong Kong with the Chinese Foreign Minister and with other Chinese leaders including Chairman Deng Xiaoping. My Right Honourable and learned friend subsequently visited Hong Kong from the 18th to the 20th of April. On the 20th of April he made a statement which described the approach of Her Majesty's Government to the negotiations with the Chinese Government on the future of Hong Kong. Copies of this statement have been deposited in the Library of the House. I hope the House may have an early opportunity to debate this important
subject after my Right Honourable and learned friend's
return from the Far East.
