HONG KONG PRESENTATION AFTER HONG KONG PRESS CONFERENCE
1.
We have discussed, in the light of Mr Ricketts' minute of 5 April, how best to respond to any pressure from the media for interviews following the Secretary of State's press conference in Hong Kong on 20 April.
2. Mr Luce is willing to give interviews if the situation so requires. I will let you know nearer the time where exactly he is likely to be over the Easter break. In the interval, he would be grateful if you and Hong Kong Department together could ensure that he receives the best possible updated briefing, with supplementaries as appropriate, for his overnight box on 18 April. The duty officers from News Department and Hong Kong Department should, in addition, stand ready to give him any further briefing over the telephone in the light of subsequent developments.
