President Reagan's dates are known more certainly and we are able to move closer to a decision on the Secretary of State's possible Peking visit. A clash in Hong Kong can be avoided by adding a day to Mr Stanley's visit to China, or delaying his four-day programme there by a day.

10. I believe however that it would be wrong to delay any further in confirming the dates for the visits to Japan and Korea. In view of the uncertainties surrounding a visit to Peking I think that we should now settle on the days originally proposed, blocking off the period 23-27 April for the two capitals.
