BACKGROUND
A Mr Parry asked Mr Luce a similar question on UMELCO costs in June 1984.
The UMELCO delegation of 12 visited London between 1 and 6 December: some members stayed on for the House of Lords debate on 10 December. The breakdown of the estimated cost of the visit is as follows:-
(A)
(B)
(C)
Air Fares dollars 189,000
-
Hotels dollars 106,000 Subsistence - dollars 45,000
(D) Travel expenses in Britain - dollars 76,000
(E) Other expenses (ie Administrative costs, hire of secretaries,
reception, etc) dollars 84,000
-
Unofficials are not paid. They may claim up to HKD 8,700 per month for expenses incurred on UMELCO business. The cost of the visit of the delegation to London is a legitimate charge on the public funds appropriated by the Hong Kong Government for the expenses of the UMELCO office.
