UNHCR SEMINAR: REFUGEE INTEGRATION IN EUROPE
1.
I enclose copies of documents we have first received from our Mission in Geneva inviting the UK to participate in this Seminar, which is due to be held in September. You will see that the purpose of the Seminar is to provide a forum for discussing the problems of refugee resettlement rather than first asylum countries. The UNIICR have therefore invited only European countries to participate. In addition, Australia, Canada, the United States, and other interested International Organisations and Agencies have been invited to send observers. The UK's two representatives at the Seminar will probably be from the Voluntary Services Unit of the Home Office and the British Refugee Council.
2. The subject of Vietnamese refugees is not specifically mentioned in the programme, except under the general heading of 'Asia'. However we assume it will be discussed in some detail, since it is such an important issue. If there are any particular points which are relevant to the theme of the Seminar, and which you feel should be raised by the UK representatives, I should be grateful if you could let me know in good time.
