Mr McLaren recently wrote to Mr Clift reporting the third in a series of border liaison review meetings held on 24 and 25 January.

The only point arising from the letter is the illegal immigration of children from China into Hong Kong. Since the meeting Lord Belstead has agreed to Hong Kong's proposal that as a deterrent measure families of such children should be repatriated. Hong Kong are currently approaching the Chinese, through NCNA, to secure their cooperation over the introduction of this policy.
