Chinese Border Control

During a visit to Shenzhen on 1 February 1983 the following information about border control was obtained from the Chinese :-

(a)

The north boundary separating the Eucan County (1,700 sq. kilometers) and Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (327 sq. kilometers of which 90 sq. kilometers could be developed) would come into operation at the latter half of the year (previously expected to be started in March 1983).

(b) Both Baoan and the SSEZ vould be

under the responsibility of the Shenzhen Hunicipality.

(c) There would be 6 major check points,

namely Nantou (?) Xiyong(), Buziao (7), Lentianeo (19), Huanggang () and Buji (7) and 13 small entry and exit points along the boundary.

(d) Hajor check points would be manned

by Shenzhen Frontier Inspection Unit

and Chinese Customs whilst chall

oncs would be looked after by the

Shenzhen Hunicipal PSB.
