6. One reason for the comparative short discussion of the research programme was some disquiet, voiced principally by the Japanese, but widely felt, about a recent discussion on North/South affairs held under Development Centre auspices. I enclose a copy of my report on that meeting. There was no problem about the principle of holding such meetings in the future, but some concern at the way this particular meeting had been set up and a wish to ensure proper procedures for future such occasions.
7. There will be three meetings within the foreseeable future (although conceivably they could run together). The first will deal with on-going research, and the Secretariat will give a presentation on each of the projects. I said that this was likely to be one at which expert attendance (ie you) would be appropriate. The other two meetings will relate to external cooperation (ie the work of the former Liaison Section, but taking 'in, such issues as restricted conferences) and the future orientation of the Centre's programme. In the nature of things these äre- likely to be in-house affairs, although obviously I shall welcome guidance.
