VISIT OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO WASHINGTON:

13/15 JULY

AND POSSIBLE VISIT BY MR SHULTZ TO LONDON ON 4/6 JULY

1. The Secretary of State is going to Washington from 13 to 15 July to hold talks with Mr Shultz at the State Department on the morning of 14 July. He also expects to meet Treasury Secretary Regan, Mr Volcker, Defence Secretary Weinberger, and Members of the House Foreign Affairs

Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He may also see the Vice President and the President though we shall not know about this till the last minute. He will also talk to the Press,

2. Comprehensive briefing will be required. My tentative list of subjects and lead Departments is as follows (the economic subjects have already been agreed between Under- Secretaries and Departments):-
