Referring to the Soviet Union's claim that the British and French systems should be included in the INF negotiations the Minister strongly supported our opposition to this. said that the West should not make any concessions in the disarmament talks and should continue to negotiate from strength.
RELATIONS WITH COMMUNIST GOVERNMENTS

Mr Lulei said that so long as he remains Solomon Islands Foreign Minister the SIG will not enter into any diplomatic relations with any communist countries. He claims to have also made this categoric statement to the Ambassadors of the US, Japan and Indonesia, and to the Malaysian High Commissioner during a recent visit in Port Moresby. This is something of a turn round for Lulei who previously argued in Cabinet that SIG should not be tempted into setting up diplomatic or consular relations with Taiwan as it would exclude the possibility of continuing the talks with the PRC initiated by his predecessor.

4. The Minister felt that the PRC should not be allowed to dictate the manner in which the Hong Kong issue is resolved. He said the peoples of the South Pacific would be watching carefully to see the extent to which the PRC took into account the welfare of the people of Hong Kong. He thought there
