7. I said that Mr James would have liked to accompany me on this call, but was unfortunately out of Tokyo yesterday. Ji said that he looked forward very much to maintaining contact with Mr James in the future. Ji does, in fact, speak some English and said that he had studied English for one year in Hong Kong in the 1940s but had had little opportunity to use it since then.

Comment

8. Ji's comments on the issues raised were very much on standard lines. He was not particularly forthcoming, but very affable and it would seen worthwhile to keep in touch with him.
