BACKGROUND MATERIAL ON HONG KONG

1. Said Sonbol, joint managing-editor of Akhbar el-Youm and a COI sponsored visitor last year, asked me on 23 September if we could provide him with background material on the history of Hong Kong and the current negotiations on its future with China. He will be off to the Far East shortly.

We do not have anything here to fit the bill and I should be grateful if you could supply with any background briefs or other material you may have. The Egyptian press is beginning to interest itself in this topic so it would be useful if you could send a number of copies.
