Future of Hong Kong
We know that all Unofficial Executive Councillors will soon go with the Hong Kong Governor, Sir Edward Youde, on a visit to Britain to convey to the Frime Minister, Mrs. M. Thatcher, the wishes of Hong Kong citizens on the territory's future. On behalf of our associations, we hereby express our views on the same subject:
Its
Equipped with freedom, prosperity and stability, Hong Kong is now facing a historical turning point. future concerns not only the destiny of over 5 million Hong Kong residents, but also the economic and strategic balance in South East Asia. Countries concerned with Hong Kong's destiny must make an accurate estimate of the position too.
We come from different trades, different strata and different economic backgrounds in the Hong Kong society. Some of us are old residents born and raised here; some have arrived here over 30 years ago to avoid communist rule, while others are new immigrants who have fled to Hong Kong to settle down in recent years.
We therefore believe that our views on Hong Kong's future are undoubtedly and broadly representative.
We represent different trades, occupations and social strate. Our views are those of the majority of Hong Kong residents.
