rather than the China Travel Service, the chances of meeting the latter are regarded as slim. He said that in any case, DENG might be in the south at the time.
7.
About five individuals in the group had prepared written submissions which they were going to hand over. They understood that they would have a chance to put forward their own ideas, though the PA said that the Chinese might in the end conduct the discussions in their usual way under which they did much of the talking, leaving little time for questions. Mr. Yeung said that a copy of his own draft submission had been given to the NCNA. He added that CHAN Yat-sen's statement included his proposals for the development of a new airport in Deep Bay.
8. CHAN Yat-sen was giving a dinner on the 8th January to the NCNA and Mr. Yeung would report if anything of interest emerged from it. (Note: No report has been made).
9. Mr. Yeung asked whether there were any particular comments on his submission or on the visit generally. The PA made the following points:
10.
1. The members should say what they thought and what
they believed;
2.
3.
In any proposals or suggestions put forward by the Chinese the members should ask questions on points which were not clear or any proposals which did not seem to be satisfactory;
It was probably best if Mr. Yeung did not call at the British Embassy.
Mr. Yeung thanked the PA and S(GD) for seeing him and said he would report back on his return.
