'The Challenge of Information Technology' FID 41st Congress, Hongkong 12-16 Sept, 1982

On behalf of the Hong Kong Polytechnic, the National Member for Hong Kong, I would like to invite you to participate in the FID 41st Congress.

When you come to Hong Kong you will find a vibrant exciting city containing diverse people involved in the development of an economic miracle. Hong Kong awaits you with interesting sights, a magnificent harbour, varied cultural events, wonderful restaurants and all the bargain shopping anyone could want.

The theme of the Congress is the "Challenge of Information Technology” and this brochure spells out in detail all the FID 1982 Congress events. People from all over the world will be attending this Congress and participants will be hearing about the latest important developments in all aspects of information technology.

As the Chairman of the Hong Kong Organizing Committee, I can assure you that Hong Kong and the Congress Organizers will do all they can to make your visit exciting, enjoyable and fruitful.

Information technology telematics - computers for home use satellite communications videotex. These are all facts. In consequence, ways of handling in- formation are changing; publishing is facing its greatest revolution since the invention of printing; there is an opportunity for everyone, anywhere in the world to gain access to published information. But progress will depend on the way communities and the individuals re- spond. The technological capabilities are there the need is to solve the social, political, legal, economic and environmental challenges they offer.

The FID 1982 Congress presents an opportunity for research workers from all over the world to come together in the tiny but exciting venue of Hong Kong to present details of what they are doing, to exchange ideas and to learn from the experiences of others. This FID Congress will be a milestone along the road to the new information rich age.
