The Chief Secretary

Sir Philip Haddon-Cave

Central Government Offices

Lover Albert Road

Hong Kong

Dear Sir,

The refusal of the Immigration Department to grant an extension of stay to Christine Vertucci, co-director of Asia Monitor Resource Center, has filled us with indignation and dismay. We know Christine Vertucci as a dedicated and hardworking person with a deep commitment to social justice. She helped organizing the poor and underprivileged of Hong Kong to defend their rights. Her work at Asia Monitor was an expression of her deep concern for economic and social issues in the region.

We cannot see any reason which would justify a refusal of Christine Vertucci's application for an extension of stay. We therefore strongly support her appeal and ask you to have her case reviewed thoroughly.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. L. K. Ding, Chairman,

Hong Kong Christian Industrial Committee

Fung Ho Lup, Director,

Society for Community Organization

Tommy Lo Kwok Kuen, Director,

Tsuen Wan Ecumenical Social Service Centre.
