one of the Consulting Physicians, or that he may have special medical treatment. Any such cases should be immediately referred to the DT Staffing Section, who will make arrangements with the ODM for the officer to see the Consulting Physician. (Consulting Physicians are Advisers to the ODM; they are completely separate from the FCO Medical Advisers.)
4.20.8 Officers are not permitted to visit the Consulting Physician at Government expense without express authority. If an officer wishes to visit one of the Consulting Physicians (or to have special dental treatment), he should first be asked to submit a report from his own doctor (or dentist) before permission is given. His request must be referred to one of the ODM Medical Advisers. The OAG of the Territory should be informed of the request and of the results of the visit.

4.21.1
CASUALTIES
OAGS have standing instructions to telegraph reports of the serious illness or death of any overseas officer; particulars of the next of kin should be included in the telegram. On receipt of a casualty telegram, the next of kin should be informed by telegram in accordance with the procedures in paras 4.21.2-4.21.4.
4.21.2 Telegrams received during office hours should be immediately dealt with by Communications
Operations Department as follows:
In respect of Administrative Officers and Senior Legal and Judicial Officers, the telegram is sent to the DT Administrative, Legal and Judicial Staffing Section
In respect of professional and technical staff, details are telephoned to the appropriate ODM Department
4.21.3 Out of office hours, the FCO duty Resident Clerk (for Administrative Officers and Senior Legal and Judicial Officers) or the ODM Duty Officer (for technical and professional staff) will deal with telegrams.
4.21.4 When a telegram is received from a Territory stating that an officer is to be flown to the UK for urgent medical treatment, but whose condition does not necessitate transportation by ambulance, the following procedure should be followed:
For Administrative Officers, Senior Legal and Judicial Officers, the DT Staffing Section contacts the Consulting Physician who decides whether or not to examine the officer before his admission to hospital. If the officer's condition is such that he needs to be met at the airport, the DT Staffing Section in conjunction with FCO Welfare Section makes appropriate arrangements.
For professional and technical staff, similar action is taken by the appropriate ODM Department.
