and 1981 section 18(3) was extended by such resolutions for

a further year in each case. It is now thought desirable

that section 18(3) should become part of the permanent

21 Part VIIA (Unauthorized Entrants) and Part VIIE

(Special Provisions) of the principal Ordinance were

enacted to enable more effective action to be taken to

prevent and penalize trafficking in unlawful immigration.

Sections 37M and 37T provide respectively that these Parts

are temporary provisions unless extended by a resolution

of the Legislative Council. Both Parts were extended in

1980 and 1981 by such resolutions. It is thought desirable

that these Parts, too, should become part of the permanent

law. Clauses 3 and 4 of the Bill therefore repeal sections

37M and 37T.

Clause 5 of the Bill is a consequential amendment

to section 58 of the principal Ordinance.
