NOTE FOR EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

REVISED UNITED KINGDOM IMMIGRATION RULES

On 26 October 1982, following consideration of memorandum XCCI(82)53, the Governor directed that copies of the White Paper containing proposals for revision of the United Kingdom Immigration Rules should be sent to UMELCO members for further consideration, and that, in addition, a further information note should be prepared covering any new points which came to light after a detailed analysis of the White Paper.

Forty copies of the White Paper were forwarded to the Secretary General UMELCO on 1 November 1982.

The Director of Immigration has analysed the White Paper in detail. The proposed revised United Kingdom Immigration Rules contain no changes affecting Hong Kong residents other than those set out in memorandum XCCI(82)53~

The White Paper is to be debated in the House of Commons on Thursday, 11 November, and in the House of Lords on Thursday, 18 November.

(The Director of Immigration, Mr R.G.B. BRIDGE, will attend before the Council to answer questions raised).
