Mr Robert Parry (Liverpool, Scotland Exchange): To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what is the latest estimate of British citizens living in Hong Kong at the latest date.

It is estimated that, when the British Nationality Act 1981
comes into effect on 1 January 1983, there will be 19,000 British
citizens living in Hong Kong, not including members of the
British Forces and their families.
