NTD concur.

The category of British citizens does not come into

legal effect until 1 January 1983, when the present description

of 'Citizen of United Kingdom and Colonies (CUKC)' is replaced

by the categories of citizenship created under the British

Nationality Act 1981.

3.

At present there are about 2,988,000 CUKCS in Hong Kong.

It is estimated that at 1 January 1983 there will be 19,000

British citizens and 2,969,000 British Dependent Territories

citizens. This compares with the previous (1976) estimate of

2.6 million used when the White Paper on the British Nationality

Act was published in July 1980.
