He has noted the recommendation that, if Lord Bruce of Donington presses ahead with his amendment, the Government should simply re-state its objections in principle to granting British citizenship to all Falkland Islanders. But he is not convinced that this takes sufficient account of parliamentary realities. He would therefore be grateful for advice on whether there is any overwhelming objection to an announcement that, without prejudice to the status of any other dependent territory's citizens and to mark the successful repossession of the Islands, British citizenship will be granted to all those residents of the Islands who apply for it within six months of the announcement being made.
