Mr Ian Wrigglesworth (Teesside, Thornaby): To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, how many Vietnamese refugees remain in Hong Kong awaiting resettlement in other countries.

The number of Vietnamese refugees awaiting resettlement on

17 July 1982 was 11,358. There were also 486 awaiting

repatriation to China where it is believed they had previously

settled before coming to Hong Kong illegally.
