The boat sailed to Zhape (7037/0989), and the captain arranged for his four children to travel on with another boat. Mean- while 19 refugees reported to the local Public Security Bureau. Two of the party subsequently ran away, leaving 17 who were escorted to the Overseas Chinese hostel in Zhanjiang on 19th January 1982.

(b) Group (b).. A group of 14 persons who claim to have departed

from Cam Pha, near Haiphong, on 5th January 1982. One male left the group in Beisha (0554/3097), and another was detained by the local Public Security Bureau following a dispute over money.

(c) Group (c). A group of 16 persons who claim to have departed

from Quang Ninh Province, Northern Vietnam on 16th December 1981. (d) Group (d). A group of 10 persons who claim to have departed

from Quang Ninh Province, Northern Vietnam, on 10th October 1981. (e) Group (e). A group of 13 persons from Hanoi, who claimed

departure from Haiphong on 20th October 1981.

(f) Group (f). A group of 20 persons claiming to have left Hue,

Binh Tri Thien Province, Central Vietnam, on 25th January 1982. The members of this group claim that their original vessel capsized somewhere off the coast of southern China and that they were rescued by a Chinese oil tanker. The group was landed at an unknown port on the Luichow Peninsula and subsequently transferred to the Overseas Chinese hostel in Zhanjiang.

Groups as they Arrived in Hong Kong

(a)

L/M 1558 a total of 64 refugees who arrived in Hong Kong on 22nd December 1981. All claimed to have left Vietnam together on 21st October 1981 and to have sailed directly to Hong Kong, In fact, eight of the members of this group were originally part of departure Group (e). They are:

(b) L/M 1562 - a total of 16 refugees who arrived in Hong Kong on

29th December 1981. This group consisted of nine of the ten refugees from Departure Group (d) plus five from Departure Group (a) who joined the boat at Zhanjiang, plus two from an

unknown source.

(c) LM 1626 - a total of 17 refugees who arrived in Hong Kong on 26th April 1982. This group was made up of the 16 members of Departure Group (c) and the remaining member of Departure Group (d).
