themselves, but require further study to evaluate their comparative benefits and disadvantages. In view of the strengthened economic base the airport will provide for the sub-region it is unlikely that any of the three options will perform less well in planning terms than the preferred strategy as set out in the North West New Territories study.

Apart from the links into the airport, an airport at Deep Bay would not require any additional road infrastructure over and above that which will ultimately be required. It would bring the road programme forward by about 2 years. In view of the likely traffic problems between Tsuen Wan and Kowloon (a problem common to airports at Deep Bay or Chek Lap Kok) it would be desirable to provide a direct segregated public transport link into the airport on opening. All three options put forward involve and require a reappraisal of the NWNT consultants public transport strategy. Nevertheless the public transport infrastructure, which would best serve the airport, does not represent additional facilities over and above those in the Strategy for Major Growth.
