NEF contour for
for an airport will in all probability fall somewhere between these two. It will depend upon the chosen method of opera- tion, and is subject to a margin of predictive error due to the time available to generate the data upon which the NEF'S are based. Nonetheless figure

TANDEM RUNWAYS (SCHEME A): Land in the Mong Tseng area is affected by the 30
NEF contour. Much of this area is upland, and agriculture is the principle economic activity. Two recognised villages lie within the contour and some squatt- ing population along the coast is affected. Το the south, land is affected by the 25
NEF
contour. In the east this affects the northern corner of the Tin Shui Wai site where duck and fish farming are the principle activities. are no recognised villages in this area but a very sparse distribution of farmers exists. On land, two out of a group of three recognised villages are affected together with Lau Fau Shan. Otherwise there is no further impact in the coastal areas apart from one small area currently in use as fishponds. Noise contours extend
the fishponds to the north of the Yuen Long Industrial Estate and north eastwards to- wards San Tin. The 30
NEF Contour affects Mai Po Marshes but no settled areas. The 25
NEF contour splits into two arms. The northern one affects principally fishponds but also in- cludes those villages in the San Tin complex that lie on the northern side of the Castle Peak Road together with some squatters located along the main road. The southerly arm affects the fish- ponds being reclaimed for residential development at Fairview Park. Under the method of operation considered here, virtually the whole of Fairview Park is affected and in addition part of one large site and all of three smaller sites for which permission for low density residential development has been granted in principle. addition, two recognised villages and squatter settlements along the Castle Peak Road lie within the noise contour.
