Tolo Harbour/Tathong Point Departure This departure is straight ahead for approximately 7.5NM to the San Tin area (where it is proposed a second VOR will be sited) where a turn will be made to track over Tolo Harbour and thence to Tathong Point.

Cheung Chau Departure This departure - which is not economically viable in every case as an engine-inoperative route requires a turn through some 105° after reaching a minimum height of 500 feet a.a. 1. to intercept radial 005° from Cheung Chau VOR continuing to Cheung Chau for entry into the en-route system. A high proportion of aircraft will pass some 4200M to the west of Sek Kong at approximately 2300 feet.

SOUTHWESTERLY DEPARTURES

BOTH RUNWAYS

There will be no difficulty in designing flexible southwesterly departure tracks from runways F1 and F2. The VOR at Lung Kwu Chau would be used as an intermediate departure fix before entering a multi-route system.

APPROACHES

(F1 Approaches from the Northeast as at Para 2.4 above)

Approaches to Runway F1 from the Southwest

Leave Cheung Chau VOR on radial 298° descending to 5,500 feet. Not before 10NM range of Cheung Chau DME continue descent to three thousand feet. At 18NM range of Cheung Chau DME turn right on to 030°M to join the localizer course. After intercepting the localizer course descend on the glide path to Decision Height.

This

approach passes 200 300 metres north of the Chinese Island of Nei Ling Ting situated nine miles from the runway threshold with an aircraft at approximately 2500 feet a.a.l. If this island has to be avoided by, say, three miles the above approach is invalid as allowing for the turn on to the final course the length of the final segment would be reduced to four to five nautical miles which is not acceptable.

Missed Approach - A straight ahead missed approach will give approximate OCHs of 100 feet Cat. II and 200 feet Cat. I. However, the route to Starling Inlet passes 800M from the Chinese border, and the missed approach segment infringes PRC by 3500M at Sha Tau Kok eastwards. If the northern flying limits are to be observed aircraft can fly to San Tin and turn at the VOR to leave on radial 115° to Tolo Harbour.

A right turn at 1NM from the end of the runway for a missed approach route over the 'reservoir' is too restrictive unless an obstacle clearance height of over 600 feet is acceptable.

Approaches to Runway F2 from the Southwest - The approach from Cheung Chau is the same as for runway F1• The final approach centreline lies over the Chinese island 9NM west of threshold, with an aircraft being at approximately 2500 feet a.a.l.
