Dear Robin.

ECONOMIST CONFERENCE

1.

682

HICH

0401

251. P401016

My letter of 21 May. Although this conference has been cancelled, R C Lee's unhelpful speech is now in the hands among others of the Economist and will probably surface somewhere soon (e.g. in the Economist itself or in the Far Eastern Economic Review). If the conference had gone ahead Jack Cater was looking to Allan Lee to respond but this may not be so easy now.

2. I am sure you will be considering on a contingency basis whether it would be useful to encourage someone in Hong Kong, preferably

a local businessman, to respond sensibly to Dick Lee's ideas,

at least plugging the Hong Kong dollar point. We should be interested to know what transpires.
