The second is the commission of the first unit in record time. The
first turbine unit successfully delivered power to the system only
3 years 8 months after work began. This major achievement will stand
testament
as
to
a record to the ability of UK industry and the successful partner-
ship established with CL and P. And it augurs well for the successful
completion of both the 'A' and 'B' stations. Let me first congratulate
//
all the management and staff of CL and P who under the leadership of
Mr Stones have played such a major part in achieving this success. Their
dedication and determination to push the project forward have been vital
acherne
in securing the success we are marking here today.
Let me pay tribute, equally, to all the endeavours of the British com-
panies involved. The single greatest responsibility has been carried
by GEC, one of the foremost companies in the UK. In partnership with
bel. I the proji. CL and P they have been the driving force in pushing forward to the
record commissioning time. And as the supplier of the turbine genera-
tors they have themselves made a major contribution to the supply of
the power plant equipment.
Babcock Power too have placed a major role as the leading sub-contractor
with responsibility for the design and supply of the boilers and the
coal handling equipment.
I must mention
Mention must also be made of the numerous other contractors and consul-
tants both from the UK and Hong Kong, who have all contributed in their
own way to the success of this project. They have slivoin to is my they and British workers' comperate effectively.
