Rather similar considerations arise in the case of Bahrain where Mrs Thatcher would on this schedule arrive at 04.00 hours. Furthermore she has recently been there;

there therefore seems to be no need for more than a transit on the present occasion.

Mr Pym accordingly recommends that the Prime Minister should fly to the Far East via Elmendorf in Alaska and return via New Delhi and Bahrain, and that the stops made should be purely technical, i e that no meetings with local political leaders should be arranged.
