PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT TO THE FAR EAST: FUTURE OF HONG KONG

.In Confidence

Thank you for your letter of 15 July.

I fully take the point about keeping the meeting

on 28 July small. I hope nevertheless that, in

addition to the Secretary of State and Lord Belstead,

the Prime Minister could agree that the following

should attend:

Sir Anthony Acland

Sir Edward Youde

Sir Percy Cradock

Sir Ian Sinclair

Mr Alan Donald.

Enclosures-flag(s)...........

Sir Edward Youde will be in the UK for a little

over one week. He will be having consultations with a

number of Ministers and officials on a variety of

subjects. While he and Sir Percy Cradock will be seeing

the Prime Minister separately later on 28 July, it would

be valuable to have them both there when the future of

Hong Kong is being discussed. In addition, it seems

right for Sir Ian Sincalir, the FCO Legal Adviser, to be
