1. PROBLEM

To advise No 10 which routes the Prime Minister's aircraft

might take, outward and return, on her visit to the Far

East in September.

We have assumed that the Prime Minister wishes to complete

the flights to and from the Far East as quickly as possibl

(a) The Outward Route

The shortest route to Tokyo, the first point on the Prime

Minister's tour, from London is via Moscow. A transit

stop there might permit a meeting with a Soviet leader.

en route for Tokyo in June 1979.
