II.

TIMETABLE AFTER 12 JULY

5. The Prime Minister will wish to have full briefing

on Hong Kong. She might take advantage of Lord MacLehose's

farewell call on 23 July to discuss the future.

6. Shortly thereafter the Prime Minister might call a

meeting with the Secretary of State, Lord MacLehose,

Sir Youde (new Governor) and Sir P Cradock (HM Ambassador,

Peking) and officials to discuss the future. She could

indicate her views, on the basis of which briefing and any

other special papers could be prepared. Any final oral

briefing could be reserved for September, after the Prime

Minister's holiday.
