Visit by the Lord Privy Seal
On the afternoon of Saturday, 9th January, 1982,
the Lord Privy Seal's party briefly visited a home ownership scheme at the Shatin New Town. He was accompanied by his wife, H.E. the Governor and the undersigned. A detailed programme of the visit is attached at Appendix I.

I gave a briefing from a vantage point in Area 41 on the development of Shatin in general and public housing
in particular. Discussions also centred on Hong Kong's housing programme and achievements, the continuing need for such a programme in view of the overwhelming demand and the growing aspirations of many Hong Kong belongers towards home ownership and the Government's increasing
efforts in this field, i.e. Home Ownership Scheme, Private Sector Participation Scheme and Middle Income Housing. question of the future of Hong Kong was not mentioned.
