MPS VISITS TO HONG KONG SPONSORED BY THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT

1.

10.2-

Every year the Hong Kong Government pays for up to 8 MPs (4 from each major party in the past) to visit and see Hong Kong. The invitation list is drawn up in consultation with Sir Paul Bryan.

2.

I attach a list of those MPs who visited Hong Kong last year for whatever reason. Only 3 were fully sponsored because the rest of the available funds were spent on programmes for others who were going there anyway.

3.

See (16)

In view of his responsibility for Hong Kong and continued parliamentary interest in its affairs, the LPS may care to suggest MPs whom the Hong Kong Government could invite for a visit this year. The main interest is in MPs who can be of immediate benefit to Hong Kong but they would also welcome suggestions of up and coming MPs of all parties who will be of value in the longer term.
