COMMONWEALTH FINANCE MINISTERS MEETING (CFMM), 30-31 AUGUST 1982

You asked me which countries covered by SPD had been invited to the CFMM. The simplest way of answering this is by the attached copyof the distribution list for my letter to Georgetown with which I sent out the invitations.

Other departments may also wish to consider your point that the presence in London of a Finance Minister might be used for official contacts apart from the CFMM.

I am therefore copying this minute to appropriate geographical departments since they may not be aware of the dates of the CFMM. I should say, however, that the programme for the CFMM itself, including social events, is already quite crowded. Some Ministers will also wish to attend the G24 meeting in Toronto on 2 September.

3. I should just add that the invitations extended by the Chancellor were for the Minister plus spouse and one senior official. The Treasury expect nearly all the Finance Ministers to attend. As the Maldive Islands have just become members of the Commonwealth the Treasury should be extending an invitation to their Finance Minister as well.
