6. Briefs should reach Mr McCleary (70 numbered copies in final form) by close of play on Wednesday 20 October if possible. This is earlier than originally envisaged because the Cabinet Office has brought forward its deadline. WED will forward the briefs to the Cabinet Office.

7. Resumés of briefs, for inclusion as an Annex to the Steering Brief should reach Mr McCleary, in draft form by close of play on Tuesday, 19 October if possible. These should normally be no more than two to three sentences. Where the lead department . for a particular brief is not in the FCO, I should be grateful if the relevant FCO shadow department would obtain from, or clear with, their contacts in other Departments an appropriate resumé. There is no need to provide resumés of the briefs on European Questions, as this will be incorporated in the Community Steering Brief (no 2a).
