Antonio Tanger, the number two in the Portuguese Embassy here, tells me that the Macanese authorities have been studying the role of the Political Adviser in Hong Kong and decided that they need something similar in Macao. Tanger told me that he expects the new PA's office to be set up some time in 1983, but that it is still not decided how senior the job should be. Tanger himself has a close interest since he would like the job. 1 Unfortunately, according to Tanger, the President of Portugal has a personal animus against him on political grounds. But Tanger is still hopeful that he will be chosen by the Governor of Macao.
