Purpose

To provide up-to- date information on the present and future availability of land for all purposes in a land production programme.

To prepare a strategy for

development of new

areas having

regard to:

(a) the development

potential of these areas;

(b) Government's

policy

objectives; and

(c) resource

* more important item

constraints.

Progress Made & Present Position

The Special Committee on Land Supply considered papers on

(i) Urban renewal

(ii) Demand for industrial land (iii) Squatter areas and clearance (iv) Development Value of Controlled Tips (v)

Temporary use of vacant Crown land (vi) Land requirements for Public Housing.

Work on the setting up of a consultancy to consider the concept of a development corporation in implementing urban renewal is proceeding.

Development Strategy Formulation : submission in respect of the overall framework, broad methodology, policy assumption and demographic inputs endorsed by LDPC.

The special team established to guide the development of the land use/ transportation optimization (LUTO) model continued with its work as programmed. Work on model development completed.

Next Quarter Targets

SCLS to meet again in December to firm up the parameters of the 1983 Report to the Governor.

Consultancy to be set up by the end of the year.

LDPC to consider the fourth submission on development strategy formulation :

Review of current develop- ment programmes. (completion early 1983)

Consultants to start work on LUTO cost data relating to Junk Bay and Ma On Shan.
