Notes:
(1)
The 1978 White Paper on the Development of Senior Secondary and Tertiary Education stated the Government's intention to increase the number of subsidised school places for Form III leavers to about 57,000. This target was envisaged to provide for about 60% of the 15 year-old population in September 1981 and over 70% by September 1986. Nevertheless, the size of the 15 year-old în 1981 is estimated to be 98,500, an increase of 3,050 over the White Paper forecast.
(2) These figures reflect the number of places arising from projects
for which financial approval has been received. These include stage I-IV of the School Building Programme. The demand figures have been taken into account the impact of the current and likely future trends in immigration (based on the 1979 Population Projection which assumes that the level of legal and illegal immigration from China will taper off in 1981).
